Then the NERQ Training Series 2026–2027 is for you.

Across 2026 and 2027, NERQ brings together a curated series of interactive training sessions covering some of the most important and emerging topics in responsible research and research education.

The sessions are designed as participatory, peer-driven learning spaces. You will not simply attend a course: you will exchange practices with colleagues across Europe, discuss real challenges, test approaches, and contribute to a shared evidence base for improving research education.

You can join one session, several sessions, or the entire series.

Train-the-Trainer: Embedding Sustainability, Eco-Justice, and Ethics in Everyday Research Practice

This train-the-trainer session introduces the RE4GREEN ethics and integrity training programme, designed to support educators, ethics reviewers, researchers, citizen scientists and students in integrating sustainability, eco-justice, and ethical reflection into education and research.

The goal of the session is to equip participants with the conceptual framework, pedagogical approach, and practical tools needed to teach others how to conduct research responsibly in line with the European Green Deal and the ambition of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. NERQ Flagship Train-the-Trainer

Join NERQ’s flagship on-site training at the European Commission in Brussels, an intensive, peer-driven programme for trainers in Research Integrity, Research Ethics, Open Science, and Responsible Conduct of Research. Designed as a hands-on, collaborative learning experience, this one-day event goes beyond content knowledge: didactical approaches, facilitation skills, and pedagogical decision-making are central to the programme. Under the supervision of the NERQ community, you will practice, reflect, and exchange experiences with peers from across Europe.

The event is open to trainers looking to develop or expand a training offer to support research quality. We explicitly welcome specific learning needs, from storytelling to coaching difficult conversations.

Advancing Open Science Through Community Knowledge: NERQ–GATE Solution Session

What to Expect in the GATE Workshop: Research is moving fast, and so does Open Science and the way we deploy AI in research. This session gives you a current, evidence-based picture of how it is actually being taught and practised right now – and you help build it.

This workshop is designed for researchers, educators, PhD supervisors, and institution leaders (who ideally have created any kind of information or educational materials in Open Science). The contribution is the learning.

Before the session, you are invited to contribute your own Open Science guiding thoughts and practices via the GATE Service (15 minutes), an ongoing knowledge infrastructure collecting how researchers, educators – you – approach Open Science. Your input shapes what the session works with.

In the session, the GATE team presents aggregated community data from 2025-2026 on how researchers, educators and other knowledge creators across disciplines address integrity, reproducibility, FAIR data, and responsible AI in research. Then, in facilitated small groups, you bring your own teaching context into dialogue with that data: comparing approaches to Open Science, identifying gaps, or co-developing new strategies for advancing it in your institution or community. Finally, groups share outcomes with the full room.

You leave with a grounded understanding of where Open Science (education) stands today, concrete strategies co-developed with peers from different disciplines and institutions, and a contribution to the open-access GATE Report, shared with the wider community via the Embassy of Good Science.

Interactive training on the FAIR-R²L Rubric

Are your datasets truly ready for reuse in AI-driven research? This hands-on session introduces FAIR-R²L, an evolution of the established FAIR data principles that adds a critical layer: responsible licensing and legal readiness for machine learning workflows.

While FAIR ensures data is technically findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable, FAIR-R²L asks the harder question: can this dataset actually be used, legally and ethically, in AI and Open Science contexts? Participants will explore common barriers, from missing or restrictive licenses (NC/NDclauses) to insufficient provenance documentation and proprietary data formats, and apply a lightweight FAIR-R²L checklist to real datasets.

The session offers practical, actionable guidance for researchers, data stewards, and institutional staff seeking to improve research dataset readiness. Leave with a clearer picture of where your data stands and concrete steps to close the gaps.
